Four new joints get keen walker David on the move
David Fry, 77, from Yate near Bristol is a keen walker, but when his hip and knees began causing him pain, joint replacement was the answer.
“It got to the point with my hip and knees that walking was almost impossible because of the pain,” said David. “My wife and I enjoy walking, and not being able to do so was having a huge impact on our lives.”
David had his left hip replaced at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre in February 2011.
“It was instant pain relief and the treatment was brilliant. I remember speaking to an acquaintance of mine after the operation, and he was so impressed by what I had to tell him about Emersons Green that, when he needed treatment, he asked to be referred there by his GP.”
Since then David has had his left knee replaced in November 2011, his right knee in April 2012 and his right hip in September of this year – all carried out at Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre.
The operations have allowed David and his wife to enjoy walking holidays in the Greek islands, India and the coast of West Wales.
“After my first operation at Emersons Green I didn’t want to go anywhere else. The team there are fantastic and the operations I have received have changed my life completely. Going from a life of pain to one where I could walk normally again is beyond words. If anyone is thinking about getting treatment at Emersons Green but are worried about it, I would say go and have it done – it’s a brilliant experience.”
Emersons Green NHS Treatment Centre is part of the choice local patients have for where they receive NHS treatment. Provided it is for a procedure which is carried out at the hospital, if your GP agrees that you require treatment he or she can refer you.
